USB Sound
#1
Hi,

I am currently running XBMC on an HP 6910P laptop running Windows 7. I am pushing the video through an HDMI adapter. The picture looks great.

My only issue is sound, I am using the headphone jack with an RCA Adapter that pushes that to my receiver. The sound is OK, But would really like to have surround sound.

Has anyone used this procuct?

I know Creative has a USB 5.1 adapter also, but it was a little more expensive, and didnt get the best reviews.

Anyone have experience pushing surround sound though USB.

Does it work?

Any Issues?

Thanks... Smile

Does your receiver not have HDMI I/O?

Also I probably wouldn't use that usb adaptor it doesnt even have optical out...try this one:

Canada - http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=56479&...ure=Vantec
US - http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=5647...ure=Vantec

Atleast has SPDIF IN/OUT

Yep does the job, if you have a half decent receiver and you go through optical ,you should get good quality sound

adriank99 I have a question for you. I just received my Audio Adapter yesterday. Very easy to install. Have a question for you.

I am using an optical cable to push the sound to my receiver.

When I use an optical cable from my Blu Ray player my receiver automatically picks up Dolby 5.1 surround.

The Vantec device doesn't seem to do that. I have to select Dolby on the receiver and it doesn't sound as good as my DVD player does.

When I RIP my DVD's I make sure I select Dolby 5.1 sound. Am I missing something? I am using DVD FAB to RIP my movies.

I don't see any software that the Vantec device installed so I can configure the audio....Any ideas?

adriank99, Please disregard my previous post. I had to change the settings in XBMC for dolby and digital output. Once I did that everything works like a charm.
