So I can get theAcer Aspire Revo R3700 (Intel Atom D525, 1,8GHz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, nVidia ION, Linux) for 300 euro

There is no way I can build it myself with atom/ion for that price
Only a celeron build comes near that price, bit more.
This is because I would like it to be at the same price as a pch c-200.

So my question now is is the celeron a better option or just go with the revo?

Ok thx.

Would replacing the sata disk with a solid state be worth it? If this is the fact wouldn't the ZOTAC ZBOXHD-ID11-E be a better choice?

I would like to still use my harmony one, read something about IR from HP with a specific serial, but it seems you can't just order them and on ebay it's all from hongkong or china.

well its always fun to have a SSD of course,
boot times are fast, produces virutally no heat, no sounds,
and makes your system really responsive...

But for your needs, its not a must have,,,
also u wanted to keep it ~ 300 so...

If I keep the price in mind and take a SSD it's better to take the Zotac and I could get that this evening if I would prefer that.
The acer needs to come from Germany and the SSD cost 70 euro.

Revo is DDR3 where Zotac is still DDR2
Revo has atom D525 where Zotac has D520

What about noise between the two?

i dont own them but i never saw someone complain about them being noisy...
there not fanless like the shuttle, but noise is not an issue...

So I bought the ZOTAC ZBOXHD-ID11, 2GB RAM and SSD 30GB HD.
Updated the bios because it's recommended in every post about the zbox.
Installed xbmc live, actually it's a modified one by xbmcfreak for ion.
Only had small issue with setup of sound over hdmi, but that was because of a incorrect selection.

I only tried 1 full episode of caprica and some parts of movies (720 and 1080). It looks great, no shutter or whatever, very smooth picture.
Compared to the popcornhour the menu flies, xbmc is much better than anything I tried on the pch. The picture seems sharper, but I need to do some testing first.

But I like it, I like it Smile

You are right, most menu/gui stuff is quite a bit faster.

But try pausing & resuming some files, then use the FF and RW keys a bit. You'll find that the PCH beats xbmc on things like smooth FF and RW. Not a big deal, but it's one thing I miss from my old a-110. I still won't go back to my a-110 though. Smile

Could be didn't try that yet. But on pch mkv playback was only playback, no RW and always resume if you stop mkv if you don't reboot pch.

Pch will be used in the bedroom, I don't hate it, but don't prefer it compared to my zbox Smile
