Thinking Of Building HTPC...Convince Me!
#1
OK so the purpose of this thread is to help make my mind up whether or not to make a htpc...at the moment I have xbmc running on windows on an aging PC and although the experience overall is superb, hd playback can be a bit choppy.

So I was thinking of making my current PC a work PC and building an htpc for running xbmc from.

Here's what I'd preferably want..
-Full HD playback
-I use a harmony remote at the moment - being able to power up/down with that would be great!
-Small and quiet
-Optical output if possible as well as HDMI - eventually I'll have a proper amp but not just yet :/
-Wifi - I don't have a NAS or anything so would have to run SickBeard and Usenet etc from the htpc Smile

As far as I can tell that shouldn't cost too much? Storage isn't an issue because I keep all my media on externals.

So what do you all think? Good idea? And how about cost? I'm in the UK, and cheaper is better! Big Grin

Just look at my signature. Running your HTPC with SAB, SickBeard, and CouchPotato... along with a NAS, TV, AVR, and Harmony remote is quite possibly the best home media experience available! Big Grin

So from your guide, would you suggest for example the '[Mini-ITX] Celeron 2x2.6Ghz + m9300 ($224)'?

As far as I can tell it would fit my needs. And what do you think total price would be (considering I'm UK and we tend to get ripped off over here?)

I've also never built a whole PC before. I can swap out hard drives and PCI cards easily enough, would this be simple enough to do as well?

Thanks Smile
