Problems playing some movies in XBMC 10.1 and not in 9.11
#1
Hi Some time ago I converted my DVD collection in to mpg files using "Magic DVD Ripper"

Since upgrading to XBMC 10 and 10.1 I have noticed that about half of my movies will not play (no image and only gibberish noise with music visualizations on the screen) If I remux the movie using Mkvmerge and turn the mpg in to a mkv it works fine.
I have re-installed xbmc 9.11 and it plays all the movies with no problem. Tested the same movies with windows media player and VLC and no problems.

I have tested this in two different systems with the same result.

Something must have changed the way it handles the movies.

I would rather not have to remux my whole video collection or go back to 9.11

Running:
Windows 7 64bit

I cleared the log and tried to play one movie and exited, it created a 9MB log!
Too large to post here ;-)

The ffmpeg library changed between 9.11 and 10.0. Not our doing, I hasten to add. The later ffmpeg is obviously having a problem with your mpgs.

Hi Thanks for your reply.
Is there a way to upgrade or downgrade the ffmpeg library or should I just go back to 9.11?
Thanks

The ffmpeg code is compiled into XBMC and can't be changed. Going back to 9.11 would fix the symptom, but the problem is that there's something funny with the video encoding. Remuxing would be the best option.

If I am not mistaken he would be using the DVD's original mpg format. I do not know the OP, but I have exactly the same symptoms, stemming from the exact same situation as the OP. Very similar log file as well.

Hi guys,

I noticed having a similar problem with a 720p BluRay-Rip.

The video turns "rainy" (you know: that "black & white ants run across my screen" - thing).
I did not try to downgrade to v9 (cuz I started with v10 and do not have that much experience) but what I tried was to play the movie with Boxee which did well so I guess it is also a problem with the ffmpeg codec.

Will this be fixed in v11 (or is it already done in the nightly builds) or will the problem persist in future versions?

Best regards,
Jensemann.
