Problem with Apple TV 2 - 4.3.1 with Jailbreak
#31
Just wanted to elaborate on my experience from the release of the "untethered JB"

I did see the exact same things already being discussed here:

ATV2 Firmware 4.3.1 & untethered JB & XBMC compiled April 1'st
  1. Sound issues
  2. Samba/SMB issues
  3. Saurik.list empty (etc/apt/sources.list.d) -causing seatbeltunlock -bsdiff & GAWK dependency issues

ATV2 Firmware 4.3.1 & tethered JB (Seas0npass) & XBMC compiled April 1'st
  1. NO Sound issues
  2. NO Samba/SMB issues
  3. A number of other repos residing in /etc/apt/sources.list.d

I also tried to #cp the entire "/etc/apt" directory over to the untethered installation, and tried with an apt-get update/upgrade, before applying the XBMC installation once again.

The outcome from that was still XBMC being fubar. Stare I do wonder if we are just missing out an unseen deb file not being installed.

hmm... I just got rid of the untethered pwnage tool 4.3.1 jailbreak and tried the tethered seas0npass method.
The smb shares work fine now and I don't get that "failed to initialize audio error" however, I now have that static audio back when I try to play files with 5.1 audio.

I had this problem back with the original ATV2 firmware but it was solved in 4.2 (i think)

I think I'm just going to give up and go back to 4.2.1. I really wanted that 3rd party airplay support though Sad

I thought sn0wbreeze 2.5 also supports untethered jailbreak on atv2 ... so it would be good to know if the audio issue is there with this jb also... can't test right know, because i'm at work...

I´ve jailbreaked my Apple TV 2 with the new 4.3.1 Jailbreak and now I become this error message when I play a showTv :
I cant initialized sound and when I'm playing Movies , then reset XBMC .
When I had the firmware 4.2 the XBMC ,it worked fine , but whit 4.3.1 I have that problem.

As of http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/q...QLiSy48MKC we hit a kernel exception here ... so this just hardens the opinion of a jailbreak issue (which does kernel stuff afaik). Mhh hopefully the dev-teams get aware of this somehow ... i don't think that XBMC can do anything about it ...

Doesn't work for atv2. Currently only the untethered for mac works(Pwnage). I believe I tried 8 times. Builds the firmware correctly but fails with the restore. Error code 1600 and about 4 others occasionally (in Itunes). I tried with the power cable and without and it still errors. After searching online I found a forum with people experiencing the same issue (don't remember what forum though).

edit: I guess I might try one more time today though. Supposedly one person got it working after they disabled their firewall and antivirus (not sure). I believe one of the errors I got from Itunes was a checksum error. Maybe Snowbreeze is being blocked from the net by a firewall? just talking out my arse here.

Just registered so I could chime in on Sn0wbreeze, but stevotdo beat me to itSmile

As far as I can tell, Sn0wbreeze doesn't actually work on the atv2. Tried several times. The comment thread at Apple TV Hacks agrees, except for one guy, but since the promised "tutorial" still isn't up, I don't believe him...

I was having this issue with adding SMB shares as well, and happened to randomly discover that if you add the SMB shares via the ZeroConf option under Add Source, it works just fine; you can even search for sources instead of having to add them manually. Adding via the SMB option does not work, though.

Hi.

Had an ATV2 with PwnageTool jailbreak on 4.3. Installed XBMC after fixing the dependency problems with saurik repo. Added uPNP NAS without problems. But everytime I select Video and press and hold Menu button on remote control in order to access the context menu for Movies (in order to select the scan directory option) my ATV2 reboot everytime. And I'm unable to scan my directory. Also If I go to Files under Video section I can select my movies within my NAS [m4v files] and after a while it crash as well.

Any ideas?
