I remember when I firt use xbmc (like 2 months ago) that every time I stopped viewing a video file, xbmc showed at the next viewing how long it was played first, asking me to start from the beginning or that point.

Now (as xbmc doesn't use sliders and doesn't allow for seeking) I use an external player via playercorefactory.xml (media player home cinema) but xbmc doesn't offer me anymore that choice : is this option only available within xbmc built-in video player ?

Yes. If you use an external player XBMC has no way of knowing how to tell the external player to resume at some predetermined point.

You can seek in XBMC by just typing the time you want to seek to.
