XBMC to load at startup
#1
I don't need XBMC to load via quiet or ghost mode, I just want it to be the first program that loads up when Windows 7 starts. Right now it boots straight into windows media center.

Also, I would like to be able to switch back and forth between the two programs because I am still going to record live tv shows with windows media center but everything else with XBMC. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Thanks.

Put a shortcut to XBMC in C:\Users\*logged on user*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If you are using a remote, you could program a button for alt-tab using something like EvenGhost, that way you could switch between the two programs.

I'm trying to figure out eventghost to do an [alt-tab] to go between programs using my mce remote, but I am completely lost. Any help?

What I do is to configre the green button on my remote to send ctrl-shift-W, then configure this as the shortcut key for the XBMC icon. This means when I press the green button it runs XBMC, of if XBMC is still running it returns the focus to XBMC. That allows you to switch back to XBMC from WMC. A similar trick may work for switching from XBMC to WMC.

But how do I do this in Eventghost? It has got to be one of the most confusing programs I have ever used.

Do you have to use Eventghost? Why not just use an eHome remote instead, then you can easily configure any button to do anything you want, including send alt-tab.

I have a windows media center remote. I'd like to remap a couple of buttons to do esc, c, i, and alt-tab.....will the media center remote plugin do that....then I could avoid eventghost.

It depends what type of remote you have. You no doubt assume, like any sane person, that all MCE remotes are the same but if so you will be sadly disappointed. Look at:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi..._with_XBMC

for general info. With a bit of luck your remote will be an eHome/RC6 compatible. See:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Usi...in_Windows

for how to tell if your remote is using the eHome driver.

I am definitely using the ehome driver. I have the official MCE v.2 remote and it works fine with xbmc right now. I just want to remap a few of the keys and I'm wondering if I need to do something like this:
http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/remote.html
or just use the media center add-on that is already available on xbmc?

My second link discusses how to configure eHome remotes. To summarise, you modify a registry key and configure the remote to send keyboard presses when you press buttons on it. I wrote the MCERemote add-on to make this easier, and Elitegamer360 offers scripts to do the same thing. The MCERemote add-on would be easier if you want to experiment with modifying the action of buttons.

One caveat: in Eventghost there is a "disable HID device" option to stop the eHome remote emulating a keyboard. You need this to be disabled or the MCERemote add-on won't do anything useful.

You can use http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/remote.html if you want to, but you shouldn't need to since you can confiigure the green button to send any keypress you want.

I set it up last night and it works great!! Thank you so much. Now I can actually do everything I need to with my remote...no need for my keyboard on my lap. Thank you again.
