Forum Announcement: *** Current Issue With Kodi on XBox - Please Read Before Posting *** [Update 30/10/21]
There is currently an issue with the XBox version of Kodi which is causing issues both with installations and running of existing installs.

We are aware of the problem, and are working on getting it fixed. It looks to relate to an issue with a Lets Encrypt certificate that has expired, which is affecting not just Kodi but other apps too.

Please do not post any more threads reporting the problem - there's nothing that can be done from the user side except to wait until we get it fixed.
We do not need logs or any other reports at this time.

Thank you for your patience while we get this resolved Smile .

UPDATE: 08/10/2021

Version 19.2 is in the process of being released for all platforms including the Xbox, this will be the first Matrix release available for use on the Xbox. This should fix all the current issues with the Xbox accessing the addon repo, and will also include other bug fixes for the Xbox such as a fix 4K HEVC playback.

However before we can begin rollout of v19.2 to Xbox users, it needs to go through the Microsoft Store approval process and that may take several days to be completed, so we will update again once that is successful and rollout can begin.

Please note that this is a Matrix release with Python 3. Older addons for Leia (those coded using Python 2) will not work with it, and as Leia is now out of support, there will be no further releases for Kodi with Python 2 on the XBox (or indeed any other platform).

UPDATE: 15/10/2021

The submission to the App Store is done, and is now awaiting approval from MS.
This takes a while due to the extended privs that Kodi needs, but there's nothing that can be done except to wait. You'll know when we do if this has succeeded, as we'll then be available in the Store.

UPDATE: 19/10/2021

Micorsoft is still reviewing our request to use a restricted capability called expandedResources, this allows Kodi to run with the same resources as game mode and is necessary to fix the 4K HEVC playback issues. If we remove it to gain quicker approval then 4K playback will remain unstable as this is the only option available to us to fix the issues.

======================================

UPDATE: 21/10/2021

Microsoft has been in touch with us to say we shouldn't use restricted capability called expandedResources as this is meant for games only, however they've given us approval to use another restricted capability which should allow 4K HEVC playback. However another advantage for using expandedResources was the increased memory allocation that allowed a 4K UI (previously UI was limited to 1080p), but it's not known if the alternative restricted capability offered to us will allow the same 4K UI. The consequence is that for now the MS Store submission is halted while we test this alternative restricted capability.

UPDATE: 23/10/2021

The test of the new restricted capability called hevcPlayback has been successful, and despite some inital concerns it does allow for increased memory usage allowing us to retain the 4K UI. Next step is to decide on a release strategy.

Options are:

  1. MS Store only release v19.2.1 since due to how our versioning is done we can't use 19.2 even though end users never got to have it.
  2. An all platform v19.3 as although it's only been a short time since v19.2 there's already been quite a few other bug fixes including an important one for high bit rate Atmos audio.

This will hopefully be decided quickly so we can finally get a version of v19 out to Xbox users. Then once the new submission is made, hopefully it will quickly pass the MS approval process for rollout since we've followed exactly what they've asked us to do.

UPDATE: 23/10/2021

Our aim is to release Kodi 19.3 this weekend across all platforms, to get the app finally into the XBox App Store, plus to resolve a couple of other bugs and issues on a wider base.

This is of course again subject to delays and waiting times for app-store approval by MS.

======================================

UPDATE: 24/10/2021

Kodi v19.3 is now available on our Mirror servers. Submission to MS Store will happen tomorrow (25th Oct) then assuming MS finds no fault in their review, it will hopefully finally arrive on devices in the next week.

======================================

UPDATE: 27/10/2021

Kodi v19.3 was submitted to the Store as planned on Monday 25th. We are now waiting for MS to certify before rollout can begin.

FINAL UPDATE: 27/10/2021

Kodi v19.3 is now available on Xbox devices.

Please note that this is a Matrix release with Python 3. Older addons for Leia (those coded using Python 2) will not work with it, and as Leia is now out of support, there will be no further releases for Kodi with Python 2 on the XBox (or indeed any other platform).

UPDATE: 28/10/2021

We are aware of the addon permission issues when the app is downloaded from the MS Store, and are looking into it urgently.

The issues only seem to occur with the app this way, in dev mode (used for development and testing) it works fine.

For people who just want playback of media rather than addons, using the older non-Python (XML based) scrapers is confirmed as working on the current 19.3 set-up.

We will update here as things progress.

UPDATE: 30/10/2021

To help things along in the meantime, below is a temporary workaround fix from @matthuisman that should improve the situation until we can get a full resolution out with 19.4.
