After a recent sudo apt-get update, a few of my videos do not have sound. Most do, but a few files don't. One example is I had a season of scrubs. The first 10 episodes worked with sound, then there was about 5 without sound, then the last 8 episodes worked. They're all from the same season, and I'm assuming are the same file types because I downloaded them as a whole season. When I try to turn up the volume it says the audio passthrough device is in use. Not sure what would cause this, any ideas?

Sounds like some of the files are digital audio, hence the message about pass through being used. With the update was alsa updated? It could have overwritten some alsa configuration files. If digital audio worked fine before the update this could be your problem.
