I accidentaly hit the shutdown button on the remote while watching a movie yesterday and when I switched the machine back on I now have the prompt:

No such device: (and what I assume is the drive UUID)
Grub Rescue>

Has anyone seen this happen before? I managed to get XBMC Live installed and running perfectly for the last 12 months, but I'm still a bit of a noob with Linux, which makes this hard.

I'm not sure what to do next?

Please help!
Seems as though your grub install has been corrupted. You need to boot from a live CD, chroot into your old install and update grub.

I've used the instructions in this post before http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9...ostcount=4

You just need to change the first line to mount the hdd that grub was installed on, so it will read /dev/sd? not /dev/mapper/blahblah

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the quick reply.

I'll give it a shot after work tonight - i'll let you know how it goes. Smile
A better thread title would get you the help you need. HELP!!! is a pretty piss poor title. Be a little more descriptive next time.
