Full Version: XBMC Suddenly Can't See My Film Collection After Recent Library Update

I just re-scraped all my files, thankfully I had already exported the data before this little incident happened.

It didn't help. I saw each film name being scanned in, yet it still gives me the same screen. I completely understand that I'm being impatient, it's just I am going on holiday tomorrow, and would like to give the rest of my family a chance to pick the films which we will bring with us on the iPad.

If you're reading this and have a potential fix. Please, Please Respond.

I don't know what to do, I think I'll try a reinstall, there must be something wrong with a code, or maybe a conflicting plugin.

UPDATE: I have installed a particular media managing application, which detects the TV shows fine, yet nothing comes up for the films. This all more and more hints that XBMC's link between the film library is broken.
I believe i am experienceing the same problem as you.

In my case my library is intact, but if I reload an individual title, it then disappears. As in your case it's still shows and is watchable in the 'Videos' list.

If, though, I manually change the scraper to imdb (as themoviedb is the default), it appears again in my library. This leads me to believe the the problem has something to do with themoviedb scraper.

The imdb scraper is giving me a headache too as it seems to only be able to scrape the plot description and the studio logo (poster thumb and fanart work fine) so it appears at the beginning of the library with no title unless I manually enter the title and other data in the .nfo file. This is true even if I have the imdb link in the .nfo.

Another thing that may be of relevance is that even if I have the .nfo file with said data, but have themoviedb as the scraper...nothing.

I've had problems with scrapers in the past but in those cases it would just come up with an empty scrape and use a screencap as a thumb. Manually entering the data in the .nfo worked then. In those cases also, things seemed to scrape properly again after a few days.

I don't know what has changed since then, but my best guess is the scraper is causing some sort of confilct. Unless you're using a different scraper in which case...I don't know.

This is my first post btw, so i'm not sure what the protocol is. Any help though would be appreciated.

By reload what do you mean? Are you talking about Movie Information/Reload? Your problem does sound weird, I'm unsure if they are related. By dissapear, you don't mean that the real file dissapears do you?

Whilst it's watchable, it's not how XBMC should work, it is an ugly compromise. I just rescraped using IMDB instead themoviedb to no avail. The other day I got a bit trigger happy enabling a ton of plugins, and I can't help but feel this is the reason. I am about to disable plugin by plugin to see if this will fix it. Update soon!

edit: the only similar thread I could find was this:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=60614
However, it offers up no explanation or solution that works.

Update2: no progress with disabling plugins. I know I'm really trying trial and error here, but I am not getting anywhere. If anybody could direct me to the file that contains the data referencing the movie information?
By reload I mean click reload on the movie information page. Doing this show it trying to scrape then the movie disappears from the Movies library. The file is still there and if I goto the videos list i can still watch. I don't know what's causing it, but the only work around I have is to switch scrapers.

Maybe if you try one movie at a time. Do you have an .nfos? If not, try creating one with just basic data like title, year and imdb link and see if that works.
I should also maybe mention that the rest of my library works fine. It's only when I try to rescrape that there are any problems.

yeah, all the .nfo's have been exported into each film folder. Everything was working fine before I scraped the last 5 films in. A growing database of 450 films just gone. It's still there though, it makes no sense. I looked in the directory for XBMC, all the thumbnails, information, blurbs, it's all there. For some reason the software isn't communicating with it's content. Angry

edit: I am going to try and delete the guisettings file, see if that will do anything (obviously I will back it up). But hey, maybe if I delete important files, XBMC will recreate them? Fixing any errors that existed before? I mean, all my metadata is exported, so it's not like I'd be losing anything if I corrupted my XBMC software up. Here goes!

edit2: Okay, I deleted my guisettings file first, to no avail, just reset the skin (as expected). So put it back. Then deleted the sources file, hoping that there would be a directory issue, yet again to no avail.
My next plan of action will to be reinstall XBMC.
Here goes!

edit3: XBMC has been reinstalled. To no frickin' avail. It seems the files were left intact, all the sources and film directories were not removed with the uninstall.

I'm all out of options. There must be an answer to starting afresh? Or even better, a solution to my issue? Please?

edit4: few links that I've tried
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=94324
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=70676
and a few others, not worth mentioning...
and have failed.

edit5: When the files are re-scraped, they are exactly that, re-scraped, they show up in the Recent part on the home screen, however not in Movies. What is going on!?!?! Next I plan to remove/move all the films that I have put in since the issue, maybe a file is causing the problem. After this, I really am stumped. Here goes!

edit6: I give up. I tried. I tried everything that I know and experimented with everything else I could think of. I just don't understand. What's sad is this thread has basically become a diary. I know I'm being impatient expecting a reply within a day, but I'm just stressed out. There's only one alternative. Plex. Eurgh.

Final note: Tried to post a debug, but really didn't understand how. Installed the plugin, registered at pastebin. Entered details into plugin. Not sure what happens from there, if a log is prompted when XBMC crashes, or if it's just constantly being created. Apparently there is a 'pastebin' button, but I've looked and cannot find. Not sure if my issue would come up in the debug. Meh.

Plex: Okay it was childish of me running to Plex, and after re-scraping all my films into Plex, I want my XBMC back, Plex is ugly, slow and just plain horrible to use. I'll leave this thread open for tonight, hoping that someone will attempt to reply.
This might seem like clutching at straws, but is your hard drive by any chance near capacity?

Mine was, so I went with a hunch and cleared about 65GB worth off a 2TB drive and the problem seems to have disappeared. I have no idea how this is related to the scraper problem, but there you go.

Might be worth a shot.

I appreciate the idea, however I have 600GB free on my 2TB Time capsule. So, it seems unlikely. How much space did you have left that inclined you to free space?

edit: judging by other threads being presently responded by XBMC representatives and 300+ post members, it seems no-one has an answer. I figure there is only one option left. Without a doubt the most extreme, yet maybe the most reliable. Reformat my mac and start afresh. I really am that desperate to get XBMC working. I'll leave it for tonight in hope that someone responds.
You should post in the XBMC Apple/Mac forums, there's not enough information to really be of assistance in this thread. This forum is very big, and it's better that users with similar systems help each other, but you need to provide the kind of information that is contained in your debug... (you must turn it on in Settings>System>debugging) restart then manually cut&paste, then post at http://www.pastebin.com then leave a message with the pastbin link.

First, I need you to relax... the forum isn't a place to get instant help like a 800 number. People visit the forums from all around the world and are all in different timezones so please account for that when asking for help.

Second, read this thread, log into your MySQL instance and apply the commands in this post.

You should be fine, that resolved my issue and my library is back.

I have now done that. I have also put in all the necessary information and reformatted my thread to make me it eye-friendly. Really appreciate the reference, cheers.

Haha I apologise, I did mention the reason for me being so impatient. I completely understand I was being over the top, just with me going on holiday in a day, I needed to get this done and sorted.

I understand that this thread sounds incredibly hectic and stressful to not only to read but to experience, if you have a look at the linked thread I've edited out all my frustrations and organised it in an eye-friendly manner.
When/If you reply to this post, could you reply in the other thread? I don't want to keep this thread alive anymore.

Smile

Btw, both of your links are exactly the same. Well, their URL is different, but for both of them I am referred to a single post. (Dw, the thread link was in the post)

Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at... VFS? GIT? (GIT rings a bell, I hope I'm not being blonde here, I apologise, everyone is new at some point!)
Thanks for the solution, I'll post it in the other thread as a 'proposed solution' and hopefully someone could instruct me how to implement it. Obviously if you read this before someone replies, I'd love your assistance.

Sorry again for being an impatient bugger Big Grin
