Full Version: problem playing DVD disc in 64 bit

New HTPC: Ubuntu 11.04, XBMC 10.1, Pentium G620 with Nvidia GT520, vdpau enabled.

I have two installations, "more or less" identically set up. One is on 32 bit, the other on 64 bit. I understand there isn't a big advantage in running 32 bit - this is just an HTPC - but as it's promised to be the future and changing later will be a PITA, I thought I'd try a 64 bit install to see how it goes.

So far XBMC and MythTV (the only 2 apps I really care about) have behaved identically on 32 bit and 64 bit. However, I've just tried playing a commercial DVD: the 32 bit version plays it fine, the 64 bit version has horrible blocking.

Is this the excuse I need to abandon 64 bit, or have I perhaps missed something?

As a possibly relevant aside, I tried playing the same DVD from VLC in both setups and got similar results - fine in 32, bad in 64.

Any comments?
