I've been trying to compile XBMC with external ffmpeg enabled (using --enable-external-ffmpeg) in ./configure and I can't get it to compile when using ffmpeg versions newer than 0.7.2
The API changed from 0.7 to 0.8, so I guess that's why it doesn't compile.
Maybe an XBMC developer knows if the project plans to update internal ffmpeg to the 0.8 branch any time soon? multi-threading really boosts performance for those who don't have hardware that's compatible with VDPAU nor VAAPI.
