yes,i have sony 40ex720 , apple tv2 xbmc can play Sbs mkv support, very good
can play 1080p but i think apple tv2 encore to 720p, if u have 50inch TV or 40 inch it ok to play

Do you use a high speed HDMI cable? Can it run through a receiver or should it go directly to the TV letting the TV output the audio back to the receiver?
I will have my new TV this week so i am very interested in giving this a try
