I'm sure I've just missed a step somewhere, but after installing numerous video and music add-ons (using the "Get more add-ons" links in their respective sections), I went to the System section to configure my add-on shortcuts. It still seems to think that RSS Editor and TVTunes are the only add-ons I have, despite the new ones being completely downloaded and enabled.

Do I have to refresh or something? Restart XBMC, perhaps? Or is it just not possible to have Netflix and so forth on home screen right now?

Depends on the skin as to whether you can have them on the Home screen but you'll find them in their relevant media sections.

ie RSS Editor and TVTunes in Program Addons, Netflix in Video Addons, etc.

I believe it also going to depend on if you are using Dharma or a nightly release. In the nightlies this ability is much more useable.
