Could a option to disable the left panel be added?

Im living in a house with others that use xbmc and several times i find the views changed and even switched from file to library mode.

I never use the left panel and wish for a option to disable it.
Could this be done?

You can install the horizontal Confluence Modded there is Kiosk-Mode by default integrated...you just have to enable it, or you can take a look at this thread, where is explained how to integrate it:
