hi..
im new to this software.
im thinking about buying apple tv2 and installing xbmc on it.
i have a friend who did the same thing on apple tv1, and had problems playing mkv files, using xbmc.
i was wondering if it was a hardware issue (he said that it played but not fluently)..
has any1 played mkv files using wifi on apple tv2?
does it work ok and fluently without any issues?

Yup I did/do 10gb, 1080p mkv:

NAS_cable_Apple Airport Extreme_wifi_ATV2.

No problem at all.

Now, how does this info help you since you have different HW and wifi signal quality?

ATV1 needs a small chip installed inside of it to work well (and then it's freaking awesome and will play anything). ATV2 needs no hardware modification and works great as well, though it will only do smooth HD playback if it's in h.264 (most HD files are).
