I recently downloaded a series of movies and didn't realise until i had finished downloading that they were in the m4v format. I placed them in the respective XBMC folders with all my other movies and then updated my library but it doesn't recognise them and add them to the library.

I've searched everywhere and everyone says that it should work no worries. I changed the format to mp4 but it still doesn't work.

Is there something i need to do?
m4v in itself should be no issue for XBMC. I just tested with one. m4v is a modified mp4 file used by Apple that allows the option of having DRM. Any m4v without DRM should play fine.
XBMC only plays it as an audio file, I had the same issue with the Terra Nova S01E01 downloaded free on itunes.
I could only play it with QuickTime.

Because it has DRM.
