Could someone point me in the right direction, can i access a terminal on my xbmc live installation as sudo using winodws 7? I have been thinking vnc but i dont want all the gui, Getting fed up getting the keyboard out if i want to do something in terminal.
you want ssh.
a good client for windows is putty.

If you have an android phone I highly recommend connectbot.
It's free, always on hand (even when watching a movie on the couch) and provides a terminal in only a few touches. A hardware keyboard (droid1-droid3) is very useful.
As an added bonus, you can utilize the ssh port forward option and the official android app so it can be used from anywhere. Starting a movie for someone else while at work for example.
This assumes you allow ssh through your nat/firewall.
And if you have an iOS device I highly recommend
