Hi there.
I want to do a fresh install of Ubuntu, XBMC, Sabnzbd and Sickbeard on my POV ion330 because i'am experiencing system freezes. I have checked the the log-files but they are error free. I did several hardware tests and swapped system memory but nothing helps.
So before beginning i would like to know what version Fresh install (11.10 Oneiric Ocelot or 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx) of Ubuntu you recommend.
grtz Jmoos
freezes while running xbmc or while xbmc is not running?
Both, I happens when i have large que in sabnzbd. That is why i was suspecting a memory problem. But swapping the mem is not the awnser. I want to swap the hdd now and do a fresh install.
I've been running pre-eden on Oneiric for a while and it is fine. I was having freezes for a long time after I initially built my new htpc and initially thought it was the new SSD....After a long process of ruling out the SSD, RAID5 HDD's, RAM, BIOS, etc....I found that it was the 64-bit Nvidia drivers causing the freezes. I reinstalled 32-bit Oneiric and haven't had one freeze since.
What do you mean with "pre-eden"
https://launchpad.net/~nathan-renniewald...bmc-stable 2:11.0-0~beta1~ppa1~oneiric
Huh

And did you use these nvidia drivers
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates
290.10-0ubuntu1~oneiric~xup1
Sid.

It's nightly builds and not a stable build yet.....It's post-Dharma and Pre-Eden.

As for the Nvidia drivers, yes of course I've tried the newest drivers from the X-Swat repo. Any versions over 285 on 64-bit Oneiric have the freezing issue. It's a known issue.
Ok. Thanks

Oh how contrarian.

I would say normally stick with Lucid as it is the LTS release, however it doesn't really matter. The support for both versions will end April 2013 (2015 for 10.04 on Server). Make sure, if installing Lucid you install a post 2.6.33 kernel or greater for TRIM support on that SSD
Lucid also doesn't have updates for numerous new hardware (look at all the problems people are having with an outdated ALSA). Backports through a ton of added ppas seems like a hack compared to the proper Debian way. It's going on 2 years out of date.
