Full Version: XBMC 11 crashes on Ubuntu 11.10

Hi all,

XBMC 11 beta seems to randomly crash, especially when playing a DVD disc. I had problems with the previous version of xbmc, but it may have been due to me mistakenly installing xbmc for Natty (instead of Oeneric).

Here is the pastebin logfile (XBMC hung so a hard reset required - therefore truncated version of log file not possible, to my knowledge). http://pastebin.com/Yacw8YpR

Please go easy on me if I've made a silly mistake! New to Ubuntu and xbmc but am trying hard.

Many thanks in advance wizards!
Should I have posted this on the newbie forum?
I have the same issue. XBMC will randomly crash when playing certain movie files, mp4 and mkv mostly. But its not all mp4 or mkv files.

I know Eden is still in beta but is does anyone know if this issue can be resolved?
Same here. I ran beta 1 for a few weeks with no problems, and then started getting repeated crashes (several a day). I disabled add-ons and upgraded to beta 2, and still get crashes, but not as frequently as before.

I have tons of crash logs, but there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it.
full debug logs please.
Here's some of the latest. I have more if they'll help.

Looks like the same issue we had on a different thread a couple of weeks ago. Users reported that this would go away with Nvidia driver 295 beta. You could also try to disable UPNP.
I upgraded xorg and nvidia-current (and a bunch of other stuff) and so far no crashes. For anyone else, here's what I did from a more-or-less stock Ubuntu 11.10 with XBMC 11.0 Beta 3 already installed:
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
I have the same issue but I am not using Nvidia. (I know, I know)
I am using a ATI Radeon HD 4350 series with ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphic drivers.
Running ubuntu 11.10, obviously.

I seem to get crashes most often when loading a stream from say.. Navi-x or worse yet 1channel plugin. (great looking plugin btw, checkout xbmchub)
Occationally just selecting something in a menu will cause a crash.

Any help here?

I would also appereciate if someone would point me toward a ubuntu repository with Dharma or one with an Eden that is more stable on linux (beta 2 or 1). Can not find one that works.
Sounds exactly like the behaviour I was experiencing. I doubt you can go back to Eden Beta 1 or 2 through a repo, but you should be able to go to Dharma. I was considering that and did a brief search and it seemed like the site linked to from the xbmc wiki was only in German. Ubuntuforums might have a solution.
Not a single Dharma PPA or EDEN 1 or 2 on launchpad. In this state, xbmc is unusable. I even removed the .xbmc file and tried a fresh install.. same issue.
Looks like Linux may be the red headed stepchild this time around.Stare
Check Compiz settings, resolved my issue by playing with openGL settings. Uncheck everything.
