Carb0, you can just let XBMC play the toplevel m3u8 and it will automatically select the best stream available based on the internet bandwidth settings. If the user hasn't explicitly selected a max bandwidth (most dont) it'll select the 3Mbps stream (or 4.5 if we ever get one).
Since when does it automatically select the best stream available based on the internet bandwidth settings? I thought it just plays one of the streams specified in the toplevel m3u8. But if you're right you can just select "auto" in the video quality settings to play the toplevel m3u8.
A while back: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/1152. Its new to Frodo though.
OK. Thank you. Do you know if there is a way to play the m3u8 playlist from the beginning or a specified ts file?

@ K's Logic
Set "Video Quality (HTTP)" to "auto" to get the best quality available. BUF-PHI was only available at 3000kbit/s.
I love the fact this addon works better than the actual online system, I've tried to put this on to my raspberry pi but it says its been labeled broken in the repository despite the fact that my htpc uses it and its updated fine, any suggestions?
A user reported that it doesn't work correctly on his Raspberry Pi. You can just ignore the messages in XBMC that it's broken and reactivate the addon if it's deactivated. Then try to play a stream.

Don't think so. The hls demuxer doesn't take any options so I think live streams start at the end and non-live streams at the start.
4500k @ 60 fps is available in archives. I've only seen 3000 @ 30 fps for live streams.

What games are you seeing in 4500 kbps? I looked at yesterday's and none are available above 3000 kbps.

Please give it a go and let me know if it works on your RPI - I am the user that couldn't get it to work. The RPI wouldn't stop buffering, and I had similar issues with my W7 machine. Network was fast enough as it worked perfectly on my BB Playbook.
The latest Pi build that came out about a week ago (unanounced...still not full release) made some changes to the memory split between the RaspBMC CPU and GPU. I'll try re-installing no and see if it has fixed it.
Tried it again this morning - thought it was working as a condensed game played fine, then tried a full game and it crashed out again Sad

Maybe just condensed work on the RPI? I'll keep testing

Ok I tried a few more, the condensed games are definitely working, a few have played perfectly. Full games still having issues. I have raised a question on the RaspBMC forums to get some advice there too.
Condensed games doesn't work for me. I can watch them in browser.
But when I try to watch them on xbmc, this is what I have (example for the Detroit vs St. Louis game from Saturday, both home an away feeds):

And I have no archived games in the list for 2012-2013/January

Plugin 0.4.0, XBMC 12rc3/MacOSX
Yeah I have no 2013 games either, and the Vault browser site doesn't have them yet when I log in.

That log shows different errors to the ones I used to get so can't comment.
Archived and condensed games for the 2012-2013 season don't work yet. The reason is that they don't show up in the NHL Vault. I still hope that the NHL Vault is going to be updated. If it isn't going to be updated it may not be possible to get condensed and archived games at all.
Hm. then why to not take them form gamecenter live, if they will not update Vault?
