I currently have a Freenas server at one location with a 10meg up/down fibre line. I would like to connect my xbmc player at a second location over the internet to this server and would welcome any ideas on best way to do this?

VPN? would this slow it down a lot? all ideas welcome please.

FTP, HTTP, or even WebDAV should all work over the internet and wouldn't require a VPN. VPNs aren't a bad way to go if you want some extra security.
