Hi,

Running Arch Linux, all updated as of today 06 Feb 2012, kernel 3.2.4, i686 architecture.

I have installed the standard xbmc package from the Arch Linux repositories (version 10.1-14, compiled 25 January 2012). ALSA sound system.

Hardware is an IBM ThinkPad T60 - 1.83 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM. all standard stuff.

I have set up a photo slideshow screensaver, intending to use this machine as a music player with automatic photo slideshow. Everything seems to work OK, except:

The problem is audio buffer underruns during the photo slideshow. The exact error message I get in the terminal is :

Code:
ALSA lib pcm.c:7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred

(repeated many times)

This manifests as 'choppy', distorted audio playback for several seconds at a time. It seems to be worst when the slideshow transitions from one photo to the next. However, even without any music playing, the buffer underrun error still occurs and comes up on the console.

Any ideas? I've tried a few things - I think the issue could be to do with ALSA and/or the XBMC audio player?

Appreciate any assistance... Thank you.
