Hi guys,
I picked up an old ATV1 with version 1.0 on it. I tried to update the software via downloading but it always get cut off and unable to download. Not sure if its the server which Apple has discontinued or its something else.

So im wondering if I can download the update files and put it on a usb stick and update it like patchstick method ?

...Im trying to update it to 2.xx so that I can patchstick it to 3.01.

If there's an easier method, hook me up.

Apple's servers still update old ATV1s (funny thing, just today I updated three units). There is a way to do it via USB: http://stmlabs.com/forum/topic/how-to-re...n-5minutes

That should bring you up to 3.0.2 of the original ATV OS software. (which is fully patchstickable)

Also think about trying Linux on the ATV1 via Crystalbuntu and getting a Broadcom Crystal HD card (still update the original software first so that the HDMI controller firmware gets updated): http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Apple_TV_1_FAQ

I really dont know whats wrong with it. It seemed to download, then gave me an error.

No, not atm. Surely you must know somebody with a Mac?

Ahhh, thanks anyway guys. I got it updated from the ATV. I suppose the network was down the last few times i tried. Its on 3.02 now. I can patchstick it now.

Is there another way to install Boxee ? SSH it ? The Launcher wont download Boxee, link's dead.

I sold the ATV1 on Ebay for $75, and got an ATV2 for $70. So no more testing but I did get one of my old Acer laptop to run Mac OS so now I got a Mac to program things under Apples..
ATV2 seems to be alot better. Now time to messing with it.
