So I've made my first move from Dharma to Eden on my Acer Revo 1600.

Everything looks great but I've not been able to get any audio to work. My audio is over HDMI to my Pioneer receiver (5.1 setup).

To hit a homerun I really need to get analog audio working as well so I can have music going to the second zone on the receiver.

My Dharma setup was installed using the xbmcfreak release but I thought I'd be able to use the standard distribution with Eden.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been running Eden on my aTV and really want to get it running on my Acer too.

Thanks,
Richard
I'm having the same problem, anyone know how to get audio working over HDMI?

I tried all the options built into XBMCbuntu but I either get a Failed to initialize audio device error or XBMC freezes up or sometimes both when I try to play a video.

I even tried the Custom option and put in plug:hdmi but that doesn't work either.

Really hoping somebody smarter than me that knows what they're doing knows how to setup the Revos to output audio over HDMI.
Got it figured out thanks to this thread!

Changed my Audio and Passthrough output devices to Custom and typed in "hw:0,3" (without the quotes) and all audio works now!
Can you please post the contents of the file: /tmp/debugInfo.txt

This will allow us to investigate why sound isn't working.

I don't have a file called debuginfo.txt in /tmp/. In fact I did a search of the entire hard drive and couldn't find this file.

But, here is my xbmc.log file

Is this happening to all Acer Revo 1600 users?

I have one as well that is still on Dharma. And im to much of a linux noob to understand the fix that was posted Tongue

Hopefully its fully working in final.

no joy for me. I still get either an error saying the audio device failed to initialize or simply no sound.

Is this an upgrade from Dharma to Eden?
This also affects Revo 3600
erhnam Wrote:Is this an upgrade from Dharma to Eden?

No. It's a fresh install of Eden beta 3.

Unfortunately I decided to try win7 so I went from Dharma (live) to win7 to this new install of Eden.

I guess I could reinstall Dharma and then upgrade to Eden but I was keen to try the new XBMCbuntu version.

I hope this helps you help me get helpedBig Grin!
I did a fresh install of Eden beta 3 and was able to get audio by typing "hdmi" in the custom fields for Audio and Passthrough output devices.

on an Acer Revo 1600?

SUCCESS!!!!!

Now I hope someone can help me get both the HDMI audio & analog audio to work. I run my xbmc to two "zones" on my receiver and the second zone can only take an analog feed. The fix above gets the first zone to work through hdmi and the second zone is dead.

Thanks for the help.
Im having this issue happening randomly on my Acer Revo 3600 with XBMCbuntu Eden final version.

My current Audio setting is 'HDA NVidia - hdmi - 0 (alsa)' chosen from the available list of options, not custom coded. None of the custom passthrus documented in these threads work at all for me

Havent detected a pattern, just playing video files with all sorts of audio encoding (ac3, mp3, aac, dts) and different containers (mkv, avi, mp4, etc), the audio fails at the start of one or another video.

My aplay debug output is:

Code:
~]$ aplay -l

Usually the first video plays fine but the second or third just pops up the dreaded "Failed to initialize audio device" and I'm forced to reboot.

Can anyone give some hints on how to solve this once and for all? Thanks in advance

I cannot believe this worked on my 1600. So far so good. Finally!
