I set up a HTPC based on Lifehacekr's solution about a year ago. It works great. However, recently, my two laptops (XP, OS X) have both stopped reading the external drive I use to store all my media. XBMC stills runs it without any problem.

If anybody has any pointers or links to other posts that detail a fix, please let me know.

I'd even be willing to just migrate all the data from XBMC if necessary. Just not sure how to perform that process either.
