I looked through a lot of information and didn't find an answer to this. I tried playing two .m4v files I had that worked great on my Windows machine, but they didn't work on my ATV2 with xmbc. I chose the Apple TV2 settings in Handbrake. Should it be able to play these files?

They play fine on my Eden RC2, I've handbraked a few and forgot to change the .m4v designation...and they play like a champ. I forgot what settings
Didn't work, as in dropping frames/bufferring? You should post the mediainfo of the files in question. Possible that your default Apple TV2 settings got changes and you're out of spec. xbmc.log would also help.
