Hi im about to perform a fresh install of xbmc eden live but i also have a second drive filled with movies from a previous eden install. How will this effect the media drive (movie drive) after a fresh install i imagine ill have to resetup mountpoint and permissions.

Will this change any files on the media drive after a fresh install?

you can mount the drive in the installer by selecting "other" (or some such) in the partitioning step. Or you can mount it in fstab later.
The media will be fine assuming you do not tell the installer to write it over.
