Full Version: [XBMCbuntu]No menu sound over optical 5.1

Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up my sound over spdif. I have unmuted everything like described in this thread: Click
When I follow post 4 in this thread, I get only sound in movies and no menu sound. Sound in XMBCbunt fails too.

I had it working once with this settings: Audio & passthrough output where set to Xonar DG - iec958 - 0(Alsa) but when reboot menu sound was gone again.
I have set no asound.conf nor a .asoundrc. Do I have to set this? Found this only in threads on setting up HDMI, what do I have to put in for optical connection?

Make a check: edit xbmc-standalone script in usr/bin and add "sleep 8" at the beginning of it. I found that on my ion system it resolved the same problem. It looks like xbmcbuntu needs some time to load something for proper working of xbmc-standalone startup script. Eight seconds of additional booting time works for me like a charmSmile i tested it on two different systems with optical output.
Ok thank you for that advise, I'll give it a try this evening. Smile
I found out what the problem is but I'm not able to solve it.

Alsa changes the order of sound playback devices:

Once my soundcard has the number 0 and after rebooting it has the number 1 or 2. So the order of my 3 playback able cards change randomly after reboot. Is there a possiblity to avoid that?

EDIT:
Code:
xbmc@HTPC:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
                      HDA Intel PCH at 0xfbff4000 irq 43
1 [NVidia         ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
                      HDA NVidia at 0xfaffc000 irq 17
2 [DG             ]: CMI8786 - Xonar DG
                      C-Media Oxygen HD Audio at 0xde00, irq 18

I tried to add the all of the following options at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
  • options snd-cmi8786 index=0
  • options snd-xonar_dg index=0
  • options snd-dg index=0

And I tried all of them with CAPS too.

I appreciate any help.

Any ideas?
You might need something like

alias snd-card-0 snd-cmi8786
alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.p...-usb-audio
That didin't worked. It's not a usbsoundcard.

But I was able to set the order according to this guide:
That didin't worked. But I was able to set the order according to this guide: Link

But I'm still not able to set the menusounds. Moviesound works on nearly every passthrough setting.

And I have a few error logs in my user directory. These error logs contain:

Code:
GNU nano 2.2.6      File: xbmc_crashlog-20120515_214004.log

Would be great if someone could help me.
This is how I have my system setup. Works for me on all the distributions I've tried, Debian, (L)Ubuntu, Linuxmint LMDE and currently Crunchbang.
I have a TV (HDMI) and monitor (HDMI) connected to this PC via an NVidia card. PC > Receiver > TV. Sound disabled in the BIOS.
Could you try it, you can remove it if it doesn't work.

Install pulseaudio also pavucontrol to control sound settings if needed.

Add / modify /etc/asound.conf
Code:
pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
    type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
    type pulse
}

And insert into /etc/pulse/default.pa
Code:
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,7

Make sure you change 'device=hw:0,7' to your device

In XBMC I have
Audio Output Device set to default and Passthrough Output Device set to 'Custom' and 'hw:0,7' - use your settings from above.

Good luck
Rick
