Personally I love the NZXT cases as there is a lot of room inside. A lot of love here for the Antec 300 which is just a few dollars more. I just bought the Antec 302 case for my unRaid build. I liked the way the HD bays were situated.
hmm.. thank you for other suggestion.. but they're twice as much as what i've picked above lol
i know those are good cases.. but i would like to get one out of those 4 because i am trying to keep the cost down.
Ok sounds good... well choose one that has good HD space and good airflow....
I too like the NZXT of all of those.
Whatever you do don't go cheap on the power supply. Get a good one like a Seasonic or Antec. I am a big fan of the Seasonic SS-300ET and SS-350ET for low price, high quality, no frills PSUs. If it's on sale the Antec EA-380D is a good one too.

Any reason why you would choose NZXT over Zalman Z9 ? (

I'm narrowing them down to those two because of the cable management, but I was thinking I may like Z9 better because of how HDD bay's set up and there's a fan for the hdd..
Why not go for the Sharkoon Rebel 9 Economy (or iCute Hegemon as it is called in some countries)?
Extremely cheap (same price category as the examples you provide), but with lots of room for expansion.
I use it with 3x Supermicro cse-m35t-1b cages:
Never regretted it!

You said MicroCenter and I saw the NZXT in the latest ad. Also, I prefer the plain look of the NZXT as well. No real technical reason. I prefer my Lian-Li PC-Q08 to either of them
.

Actually, i'm not ordering them from newegg. I'm gonna go to Microcenter. they have Z9 for $25 and NZXT for $28. but your case looks sweet lol

How much do those drives each cost?
Isn't the ECC ram also a premium?
I only ask since it looks like I'd have to eat peanut butter sandwiches for a long time.

No, don't get a EA-380D!!!
With a media server the most important feature a PSU needs is to be single rail, which the Antec Earthwatts PSUs are not.
I personally think the best PSU in that class for the job is this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817371029
Single rail, is made by Seasonic and sold by Antec. Win, win, win. I have had one in an Unraid server for almost two years.

What is the 'single rail' ? I don't know too much about PSU's.. but i have this laying around:

I was just going to use this psu
GortWillSaveUs drive cages like that are up to $100 bucks each..... they look cool but is it really worth it?
