I am curious if anyone can help me out really quick, I am looking for a means
of recording xbmc booting up with the whole plymouth splash etc. Does anyone
have any idea how this is possible other then directing a video camera at the
screen? TIA

EDIT: don't have gnome or any other desktop enviroment in the background,
it just loads up X and right into XBMC from the lightgm auto login.

Impossible without an external capture device, worst of which would be a video camera. Ideally a device that can record video over HDMI output. Plenty of those around if you look but costs money obviously.
