I installed XMBC Live on a box with Nvidia GT430 HDMI card, out to my preamp. I ran the steps to get video and audio properly out the HDMI output and it works (custom "plughw:1,8"). I have made no other modifications to XMBC. I listened to MP3s, and 96khz and 192khz FLAC files. Much to my surprise my preamp is reporting 44.1khz, 96khz, and 192khz respectively. I was under the impression that I needed to move to the nightly builds and audio engine to get 96 and 192khz output. The FLAC files are also 24 bit, but I don't have a way on the receiver to verify they are being sent 24 bit, only the sample rate. Am I not going to need to go to nightly? Are there any other benefits to audio engine??
If it's set to passthrough audio it will do just that without any reencoding.
