I was really excited to see Edit Decision Lists in XBMC, but I had a question about having multiple "cuts" of the same video. (More on EDL here XBMC Wiki).

So taking the wiki example of The Matrix I want to have the following "cuts":
  • The Matrix - No violence
  • The Matrix - No swearing
  • The Matrix - No Keanu

From what I can see I would have to have 3 copies (or symbolic links) of the The Matrix.avi. Is there anyway around this? It would be nice to have each edl point a single video file.

So I looked at the code and found that this is not possible. The logic is fairly simple in that it looks for an EDL file and then a video file of the same name.

XBMC does not support pointers in the container file so it is not possible to have multiple edits at this time.

(Again I think that that symbolic links would work.)

Can I apply this to my whole movie collection?
