Ok so I want to use my laptop as my HTPC at least until I can afford a standalone PC to act as one.

So here's the Problem: I plug in a VGA Connector to my laptop (which only has VGA, no HDMI) and my TV. I set my input to my TV to VGA, and that video works great. The problem is, no audio. I want it to play through my TV speakers. I ordered a 3.5 mm jack to 2 Male RCA Cable and that didn't work. I don't know how to make the audio input to do that. So, I was thinking I might get it to work with a 3.5 mm jack to optical audio?

My laptop is a HP G60, and my TV is a LG 60PV450.

Please help,
Thanks
AUDIO IN (RGB/DVI)
1/8” headphone jack for analog PC audio input.
RGB IN (PC)
Analog PC Connection. Uses a D-sub 15 pin cable
(VGA cable).

You need the sound to be a 1/8" RCA Cable to hear through the PC input.

I still don't understand what you mean.

This is what I have right now:
VGA to VGA
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190692700206?ssP...1497.l2649
3.5 mm to Dual Male RCA
http://www.ebay.com/itm/360471288254?ssP...1497.l2649
Look at your owners manual or the back of your TV. There is no Dual RCA connector for the VGA input, it's only 1/8" RCA Cable. So if you want sound when using VGA input you need to use a 1/8" RCA Cable. Otherwise known as 3.5MM to 3.5 MM
Or that green wire fro your PC to your speakers.
Or

I think what you need is a 3.5mm stereo M/M cable. There should be a 3.5mm audio-in jack located near the VGA jack on your TV where one end of this audio cable should be connected; the other end goes to the 3.5mm audio-out jack on your PC soundcard (or backpanel of motherboard if using on-board sound).
KraziJoe beat me to it! Smile
Oh ok now I see what y'all mean...I can't believe I didn't see that before. Thank you.

One more question. I have another TV that does not have VGA, only HDMI, I realize that if I buy a VGA to HDMI cable, I still won't have audio. Any solution to get audio there? I already ordered a VGA to HDMI cable off of eBay that will be here tomorrow.

I think the same way. Set the HDMI to HDMI and sound to the VGA Connector. It may vary from TV to TV so look in your TV instructions or online.

But I am saying that I also have a TV that does not have VGA, so it would be impossible to set the sound to the VGA connector.

BUt I am saying that it varies from TV to TV. On the one you have now the HDMI sound either comes through the HDMI or if there is no sound signal it comes through the Mini RCA port on the PC input. It's right there in the owners manual.
Ok well this is what I have on my other TV (the one with no VGA)

THen it's probably the coaxial.

For the audio? What kind of cable would I need for that?
I would think

Maybe someone can confirm, but you need to look at your owners manual.
Well.. for that tv without the VGA.. you don't really have much option except for getting VGA to HDMI converter with Audio.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6812186169 (Not recommending this one particularly. It's an example)

Since VGA does not have audio, if you convert VGA to HDMI, you're only getting the video.. and since your tv does not have a separate audio in, that means you have to use that converter

Edit:
But I guess if that Coaxial port is going to be working with one of hdmi port, you can use that I guess.. did not see that coaxial
Okay. So. It looks like you have this tv (or bigger version of it): http://www.tecca.com/product/dynex-and-1...60hz-hdtv/

I looked up the manual here.. which is here: http://www.manualowl.com/m/Dynex/DX32L20...ual/277041

That Coaxial looks like it's only for output to a device based on page 6 and page 15.

So again. nvm. you have to get the converter if you want to do VGA to HDMI.

So, from my understanding, I HAVE to have this (or something like it): http://www.monoprice.com/products/produc...1&format=2

That is the only option? If it is, that's kind of a bummer because I didn't really want to drop $30 on something, but oh well.
