On xbmcbuntu, never looked at plying games before but thought I'd give it a try to see if the kids like any of the games I used to play.

Can any one recommend a particular emulator for genesis/megadrive/mastersystem nes/snes ?

Is MESS any good?

Also can this be setup on a network drive and shared?
Nes = fceux
Snes = zsnes
Megadrive = Kega fusion
There's also mednafen which has all of the systems you want, if you'd rather use one emulator for everything. It's also cross-platform and open source.
Thanks, now do I use rom collection browser or advanced launcher?

You will found a list of working emulators for linux, and related setups for Advanced Launcher and RCB here : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Main_Page. Personnaly for genesis, mastersystem, nes and snes I'm using Mednafen : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Mednafen. Principal advantage of MESS is that it has a large games platform support. Yes you can setup network drive and shared once you automount this network drive on your system. It will not always works by using samba paths.
hello!

what about Wine? Does this work in xbmcbuntu?
And if yes - how and does advanced launcher support this also?

For Wine it may be possible, but personnaly I have never tested it under xbmcbuntu. Advanced launcher support any application that can be started using command line... so I do not see any reason why it will be not possible.

What parms do you use for mednafen because the parms on the wiki dont launch anything for me only having "%ROM%" does?

I'm using exactly the same parameters : -fs 1 "%rom%" (but for version 0.9.22-WIP of Mednafen). Which version are you using?
0.9.24

-video.fs same behaviour
Ok... So I do not see any reason why it's not working on your system. The -fs 1 parameter is to automatically start mednafen into fullscreen. But it's not necessary to use it. You can also force fullscreen mode by editing the video.fs value of your ~/.mednafen/mednafen-09x.cfg file :

Code:
...
;Enable fullscreen mode.
video.fs 1
...

And what is the error message?

doh was missing the 1 -video.fs 1
Now launching in fullscreen, any pointers for getting sound?
Here is the audio configuration part of my ~/.mednafen/mednafen-09x.cfg file :

Code:
;Select sound output device.
sound.device sexyal-literal-default

;Select sound driver.
sound.driver default
Thanks I have sound and its full screen.

Could you give me a pointer on getting my xbox 360 wireless controller working?

It is recognised but doesn't really work properly in xbmc ie left right up down are screwed up, although I dont know if this is relevant. I may create a separate post for this.
Sorry bilbonvidia. I cannot really help you on this part. I'm personnaly using a PS3 controller. Maybe take a look here : http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Xbo...or_Windows
