After installing XBMC on a virtual Server (Windows 2003 or Seven iOs), I get an error :

CApplication:Create() failed - check log file and that it is writable.

I had the same issue on a desktop (Seven) and could resolve it by changing screen resolution.

Any Clue?
Thanks
what virtual platform are you using (virtual box, hyper-v, etc) and what is the setting for your virtual machines video memory. I think i have read that the video processing is the limiting factor in a virtual environment as xbmc doesnt (atleast didnt when i looked into it a while ago) work too well with the software video that virtual box uses (the one i was trying with).

would be good to know if we could get this working tho as i could definitely find a use for this.
Hi and thanks for feed-back.

I do use hyper-v and 3D RemoteFX video card together with 4 screens on the server (Matrox card). resolution is 1600x1050.
I've tried to set up the screen#1 to a more acceptable resolution (1024 x 764), but still not working.

I got this issue on every machine I've installed XBMC on. Normaly, reducing resolution and working with XBMC windowed mode has always solved my installation problem... Virtual machines being the exception till now.

Hope this helps
Thanks
In most cases this error is related to the video-card. Since you use Hyper-V have a look at this:

This is def. not XBMC's fault...

The culprit is probably the video-driver used for the virtual hardware (or do you use passthrough? However - still a driver issue Wink ). No way to fix this unless MS decides to improve on Hyper-V.

Another point is that the virtualization software does not support 3d accelaration for graphics which will result in a horrible performance for XBMC. VirtualBox can do it afaik, but only for linux (again: afaik). Hyper-V definetly does not support it, don't know about VMware and Citrix though (Citrix probably can do it).
