Hi everyone!
I'm looking for some help please. I am very new to this so apologies for any rookie mistakes!
I have got a new acer revo rl70 and put xbmcbuntu (Eden) onto a usb pen. Everything is working really well.

My problem is when i go to suspend the device. It doesn't come back on when i press the power button.
It will turn the led colour from purple to white and power up the fans (or that's what it sounds like), but nothing else. I have to pull the plug out of it and put it back on to get it to power back into xbmc

I have tried working through the whole of section 1 of this article but unfortunately it hasn't made a difference.

Could someone please help?? i thought this should have worked 'out of the box', as I was hoping to add wake on usb and ir remote functions soon!

Many thanks in advance

Ben
hmmm. my suspicion it that when it goes to sleep the pc shuts down the usb controllers to save power and when you try to wake it up, it can't because the usb controllers are still turned off. check your bios settings to see if "wake from usb" is turned on. if not, turn it on. that way when you enter sleep mode the pc will not cut power to the usb controller. if that doesnt work try it on a hard drive to see what happens.
Hi. Thank you for your reply!
My wake on USB kb/mouse is enabled already unfortunately
Power on by pcie devices is disabled and deep power off mode is enabled if that helps?

I'm sure this works when installed to USB as I've read it loads

Do you have any other ideas??
Hi,
It is now installed on the internal hdd and still no joy. Could someone please help??
Is this a hardware fault??!
Is there any BIOS setting that defines how the power button behaves? Probably on the power management page, if there is such a setting.
Hi,
These are my Power Management BIOS settings:

ACPI Suspend Mode - [S3(STR)] - this cannot be changed as far as I can see
Deep Power Off Mode - [Enabled]
Power on by RTC Alarm - [Disabled]
Wake Up by USB KB/Mouse - [Enabled]
Restore AC on Power Loss - [Last State]

When I put it in suspend mode, the machine doesn't turn off but the LED goes purple. So I would assume it is trying to suspend?
Hi,
I've also now put openelec on and the machine still doesn't come back out or suspension
Do any other RL70 owners have this problem??

i would try disabling deep power mode and see if that helps. it really seems like a hardware config issue to me. heres an article about the setting. while it mostly refers to the network card, it does mention other devices and im sure it could apply to usb as well.

ive had a hell of a time with bios sleep issues. seems to me some hardware manufacturers dont really put much effort into making sure they work properly. maybe its my bad choice of motherboards.
Hi!

I thought I would post my resolution here as it could help someone else.
It looks like it was the video drivers
This is what led me to suspect them:

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30330

This resolution may work but i didn't test it:
http://www.upubuntu.com/2012/08/install-...32-on.html

Instead I installed the openelec 2.0 beta 7 which contains the newer drivers

Suspend and wake from the remote is now working perfectly!
ah. glad you got it working. thats one of those things thats hard to diagnose unless you are there in person. im wondering, when the problem occured, did the monitor wake up but stay black or was the monitor still asleep?

Wow, that was an obscure one! Glad you had the persistence and diligence to ferret out the root cause of this problem and thank you for sharing the solution with the community. I'm sure this thread will help out others in the future.
