Yeah I think I might start looking at this route, does anyone know of any negative side effects to this?
So I'm in the uk so monoprice isnt very ideal for me, I did however find out that that particular product does not work if the output device does not accept 5.1 (I.e a TV)
Anyway, after a bit of a look I think I found an ideal product for me;

This has 6 positive reviews and the majority of which mention some sort of htpc and one even mentions xbmc
, they also say they were in a similar situation of the tv not 'allowing' 5.1 sound.
I'm thinking of giving it a shot on my main pc (which I've been using as a testing environment until haswell nuc) to see if it works, anyone able to spot anything bad about it?
This method should at least remove any problems I would have with drivers etc right
?

Yep exactly this, and would prefer to get optical out somehow rather than switch the avr
Anyone using at cable card with the nuc? Is it even possible?

kind of, sort of
i have an hd homerun prime on my network - mce does great with it
i also run xbmc and use mythbuntu - can't get protected channels though (things like hbo, etc)

Yea, I have a SiliconDust external one that runs over the network. My nuc has a 32gig ssd and 1 tb usb external. Runs like a champ in win7 and MCE.

Are you getting premium channels? HBO showtime etc?

Yea, if you use Media Center you get all the premiums

I have one, though I use it to get an analogue signal from the HDMI rather than optical. For me the only downside is that the HDMI handshaking seems to take a bit longer than with the NUC connected directly to my AVR, presumably because there's two handshakes rather than one. Other than that I can't fault it.

Intel announced it a month or so ago. If you search the thread you'll see the link.

If you want a source just google "Intel nuc haswell" and the first page will be filled with articles from June about the new haswell models which have a release date of Q3 2013 at the moment. Doubt it will be September but can hope
This thread is nothing short of amazing. The banter and conversations back and forth have really helped me narrow my choice down for my new HTPC. At the moment, I have an ATV2 and all works well, not great, but good enough.
Would I notice a big difference between the ATV2 and the Celeron Nuc
?
Or would the i3 version be better suited for me as an upgrade
I want to run any other good looking skin besides Confluence which I am using on the ATV2. I mostly stream ripped copies of my movies from my networked drives.
Thanks in advance and keep the conversation going strong!!!
Averaging once a page but the yes. The Celeron NUC is capable of everything bar full frame packed 3D.
For anyone looking for a better timeframe on the haswell nuc release:

Does anyone have any recommendations for a WiFI card for the NUC?
I have the DC3217BY i3 NUC.
The Centrino 6235 which a few reviews have mentioned is pricey here in the UK...
The Centrino 6250 is a lot cheaper (£10/$15) but I am concerned about support for this... anyone any ideas? Super quick streaming is not a concern for me, I will be playing files off a local HD but want it for SABNZBd
