I just did a brand new installation following Gort's A6 build here:

I would like to know if there are any posts someone can direct me to that give all of the simple configuration steps such as installing needed codecs, etc, on a brand new build.

This machine is only to be used as a Media Player in the living room so nothing else is needed.

It has Windows 7 installed.

No codecs are required for XBMC (built in), you should be good to go... but do peruse the add-ons in the official repository for some extras, and I'd be amiss to not recommend some extra scrapers.

What are you trying to achieve (1080P video, bitstreaming HD audio, etc) with your HTPC?
