So i'm re-configuring a few things on my htpc...I am trying to go more and more silent...so i'd like to have some recommendations!

things to consider...my htpc will only be on a few hours at a time, at the most, to watch a movie and such...
if it's on all the time, it'll be suspended/sleeping to minimize power consumption

so here's what i got:

mobo: Asus F2A55M-CSM
cpu: AMD A6-5400k (65w)
SSD: Kingston SSDnow S50
ram: Kingston VALUEram 1333 8 gig (2x4)

so..my questions are...#1 do i need an extra fan (i have one installed already, a small vantec stealth) for the case:
and #2 would a picopsu be enough to power my system consistently, even if i played emulators?
I'm thinking of this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-Box-picoPSU-1...pd_cp_pc_0
with this brick: http://www.amazon.com/Switching-Supply-1...pd_cp_pc_3
i just need those two things, from what i know, to replace my PSU to a picopsu?
Let me know what you guys think...

my goal is to make sure i'm okay for power and try to make it as silent as possible...
The picoPSU 160 is likely overkill but I don't know what the power usage is of the Trinity APUs so I cannot make any picoPSU recommendations yet.
agreed that we don't know the average, but it is rated at 65w...which is the same as LLano..i don't figure it's too much more than that in average power consumption...

if it's overkill, that's fine with me...hehe, i jsut want to make sure it can handle it, and that the brick is fine, since most bricks are 102w and this one is 144w...

i was just scared on more intense usage that it wouldn't be enough..i currently have a 275 standard micro atx and i'd like to replace it with something fanless

and how about the case fan? do you think it's needed?
If it's similar to the A6-3500 it'll draw under 90W at maximum load.

Which case are you using?

FWIW, that AC adapter is not compatible with the picoPSU 160. The maximum amperage rating on the barrel connector is 8A. That adapter is 12A. Over 8A that you need the 4-pin mini-FIT JR style like this: http://www.mini-box.com/19v-8-4A-160-Wat...er-Adapter

From page 3 of the picoPSU 150-XT manual: "Input current should not exceed 8A. For current higher loads, we suggest using a 2x2 mini-FIT JR as an input connector."
i see...thanks for the head's up...i just went by the description on amazon that said it was compatible, but you never know...I'm not well-versed enough in electric things to know the difference.

I think i might try to go just more expensive and go with a fanless PSU...getting this thing to be quiet is a pain and expensive =-\
For this whole 8A thing, which seems to be inconsistently documented, I've sent an email to mini-box.com for clarification. I see them doing and saying one thing yet their resellers do another.
agreed...because it was the same seller cross referencing their products, yet picopsu saying that it should not be that way..

interesting to say the least...let us know what you find/hear
picoPSU-90 90W should be all you need for the 65w Trinity A6-5400K.....if you are planing to add a BD-ROM, you'll need the picoPSU-120 120W.....
even with 2 sticks of ram though?

i'm thinking i will eventually add a bd-rom..so maybe the 120 is best
but the 120 you linked there needs a brick right? i can't just order that and be done with?

and i see there's no 4/8 pin atx connector? so i would need this as well: http://www.short-circuit.com/product/4pin-p4.html
so that, plus brick, plus the picopsu-120....
the only problem is that leaves only one sata connector...so i would be screwed if i wanted my ssd and bd-rom, no?

odd thing too is that even this site pairs the 120w with a 10a:

strange

My favorite picoPSU 120 choice is the 120-WI-25 with a 18.5 or 19V AC adapter.

That should work.....$53 is a great deal for both Pico PSU and AC-DC adaptor....

Yes...

I agree that it is a good deal...but like i said, as soon as you have two components, you are stuck...

i need the cable to convert to the atx12v (4 pin) and then i lose that output of power...i'm only left with the SATA cable..unless there is a picopsu out there that would allow to power a second peripheral...whether it'd be by another 4-pin molex or another sata?

because if not, i just don't see how you can get it to work..

You can find splitters at these links- Accessories Cables and Computer Power Cables - Internal.....

Thanks! I'll just grab a sata splitter along with the picopsu..and have it power both my ssd and a bd rom...
