Recently rebuilt my XBMC box and based on Ubuntu 12.04 server, and i'm investigating new technology for controlling the box. Currently I'm using a home-built IR receiver to the RS232 serial port in the back, and using LIRC to control the box. Since the box is out of line of site, I have a short wire to place the IR receiver in the hall taped to the wall. Not exactly the best in aesthetics, but so far passes the WAF for controls.

I see some pretty fancy Harmony remotes with RF, but can not find any good way to get the RF into the computer.

Some neat RF remotes with an RF Dongle, namely this one from Motorolla:

Tried the android remote over wi/fi, but do not like having to use my phone or tablet, just want a dedicated device sitting on the coffee table.

So I just want to see if there is something I am missing. I figure anything that can put out an RS232 signal can be used to control LIRC. Willing to think outside the box here.
