Hello everybody!
Recently I've updated XBMC iOS to 12 Frodo on iPad 3 (iOS 5.1.1) and managed to AirPlay screen to ATV3 on Display #2, but there is only 720p resolution option.
Do you know if:
1) this is Frodo or any Device (iPad3, ATV3) limitation
or
2) I must make some extra adjustments in Frodo to obtain 1080p resolution AirPlay to ATV3?
If 2) is true, please tell me how to do that?
i think this might be airplay limitation - use a hdmi adapter directly from the ipad to the tv for getting 1080p.
The second question is:
How about 5.1 channel audio?
It seems AirPlay downmixes/supports only stereo - Am I right?
The only way to AirPlay anything from XBMC is via AirPlay Mirroring. AirPlay video won't work because those video files aren't in a native Apple format and because XBMC isn't set up to actually send content to an AirPlay target (outside of mirroring).
Thx for current state explanation, but one more question arised and one more left:
1) Is it planned to target ATV from XBMC iOS with AirPlay 1080p?
2) How about 5.1 channel audio? Currently I do only get stereo.
Oopsie daisy!... Thanks for clarification.
AirVideo can passthrough H.264 1080p and works great on AirPlay ATV3 (I'm just watching MI3):
Air Video allows to pass through videos that are already in an iOS compatible H.264 format natively without the requirement for re-conversion.
Why isn't that possible in XBMC?

Because XBMC supports non-apple supported formats, and you would have to re-capture the entire screen to include the XBMC GUI. Could it be possible to show just the video for h.264 mp4s that Apple supports directly to an ATV3? Probably, but that would be a ton of work and is not something any of our developers want to do. It would probably be easier to jailbreak the ATV3 than to do this.
Certainly, you're right, but I was playing mkv and this is interesting then.
