Here is a window .exe file that you simply swap with 'WMC' windows media center file. enabling the green button on a window remote to initiate XBMC instead. Download the file and instruction. - http://www.vdubus.co.uk/services.html
It should work with win 8, but im currently having problems changing file permissions on my pc, but feel free to try, then tell me the trick lol
try running as admin?
No it's not that simple here tells you how to do it - http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tip...windows-8/
but even after obtaining permission and swapping the file it doesn't work. im going to try instal wmc 8 and product key, then see if the swap works.
For ive found a script thats meant to initiate xbmc for window 8 using the green button: http://xbmccustomregis.sourceforge.net/remote_manu.html
But yet again I cant get this working right.

Better yet (for me anyway) Ive found a windows 8 mod that enables the' green button' to initiate the start screen (metro screen) from a any app including XBMC.
ie. you can initiate xbmc from the start screen, using the directional buttons on your remote, then to get back to the start screen simply press the Green button.
I believe the default setup for this is to initiate WMC ? This mod is a more practical option and works perfect

1/ Launch the Registry Editor by typing regedit from the Windows 8 Start screen.
2/ Navigate to, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001 \Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
3/ Double-click on the binary value named ReportMappingTable to modify it.
4/ Scroll to the bottom of the binary data and add the following. You don’t actually type the spaces, it will automatically input them for you:
0D, 00 00 00 04 08 00
5/ Reboot your computer.
6/ Launch an app, then click the Green Button on your remote. If you are returned to the Windows 8 Start screen then you did everything correctly.
