This should already work I believe?

I know its gone from the repo, but I would like to have a look at it.

Can you explain what exactly you would like to look at? We have a scraper which scrapes from IMDb just like the same way the IMDb scraper did. The only difference is that IMDb search engine is not functioning well as of now.

Movies like "ocean's twelve" it doesn't find "ocean's eleven" gives me the Portuguese title. So THANK YOU for making optional to use the IMDB search and not mandatory. In my opinion the TMDB should be the default search and maybe put a warning in settings that IMDB search is broken for non English users. Thank you for your hard work

It paritally works, but auto(bulk) scraping will fail if you search by the US title and IMDb only returns your localized title and not the US title in search results. In case you manually scrape and you select the Portuguese title then you should still get the English title scraped (in case this is what is set in settings).
I do not seek to invalidate the statements about the broken IMDB search here, but I have licences for two pieces of software, called "All My Movies" and "My Movies.dk".
They fixed the IMDB search on their end and my whole collection (~2500 movies) is scanned properly as it was before. Unfortunately they don't offer xbmc .nfo export Smile
So is it a question on how the search is actually being used in the first place?

As I said, don't want to cause a fuss, just curious here.
IMDb search will getting fixed in the Universal Scraper based on a finding by a user.
Infinite thanks for all your hard work Olympia Smile
IMDb search should be fixed in Universal Scraper v2.1.0.

This means that the Universal Scraper - by its default settings - functioning exactly on the same way as the IMDb scraper before. In other words, the Universal Scraper - by its default settings - is basically an IMDb scraper.

I was curious and checked these two ("All My Movies" and "My Movies.dk") and none of them has proper fix for the issue about the aka titles. If your OS/browser setting is set to a non-English country, then none of the above two provides proper titles if you use English title as for the search string (it will return the localized title instead of the English title even if your search string was based on the English title).
Ah alright, I read the part about "aka" titles and language, but didn't really connect the dots apparently. Didn't realize it was the actual environment locale.
Thanks for clearing that up. I feel more like an ass, but it's good to know the facts in any case Tongue
Nahhh, no, you should not. I didn't realize this is linked to the browser locale either. Credits for this finding should go to this guy: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1271782.

...well, I was also feeling like an ass. However, IMDb search is still behaving strange in case of some titles, even though now the default locale is forced to en-us. In each case, Universal Scraper now should bring a _close_ to 100% hit rate.
Awesome Big Grin
Is the Universal Scraper only for XBMC v11 and upwards? I'm still on 10.1 and can't find it on the repo. Maybe this is a good time for me to do an update?
Yes and yes.

(2012-12-12, 13:06)akuiraz Wrote: [ -> ]http://imdbapi.org/ - This API seems to be well documented and allows searching by title!

FYI... if your referring to imdbapi.com, you can search by title now.. example: http://www.omdbapi.com/?s=Star%20Wars&r=XML

.... hopefully this will be of some use!
I, at least, was talking of the internal imdb API (I'm pretty sure olympia was too). It, like the two external ones you linked, fails to work with AKA titles.

Taking your example, consider, let's say, in Italy "Star Wars" is known as "Guerre stellari" (according to imdb):

http://www.omdbapi.com/?s=Guerre%20stellari&r=XML
no hits

http://imdbapi.org/?title=Guerre%20stellari&type=xml
one hit, but wrong

http://www.imdb.com/xml/find?xml=1&nr=1&...20stellari
20 hits, none right (and this is the internal API.)

http://www.imdb.com/find?q=Guerre%20stel...n_al_tt_mr
ding ding ding! Web search wins.

That's basically what it comes down to.

Did you tried limit parameter by imdbapi.org? Huh Search results is as good as imdb.com.Cool
Can i use imdb for movie and tv show information, instead of themoviedb?
