Is it possible with xbmcbuntu? Or do I have to go the Windows7 route?
If you posted your hardware specs you could get a better reply.

uNi
yes, passthrough is supported. If also HD audio passthrough is supported depends on your hardware.
Sorry, I haven't actually built the HTPC yet but I'm thinking:

Shuttle XH61V (http://www.shuttle.eu/prodotti/slim/xh61v/specifiche/)
Intel Celeron G550
30GB SSD
4GB RAM

Basically following this post: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=148856

Will this hardware support HD Audio passthrough?
I have a similiar question

Just wrote in into another thread, but nobody answers...

Will it be possible to bitstream HD Audio (DTS HDMA or Dolby TrueHD) via an ION2 platform? Maybe a Zotac IONITX S-Series oder U-Series?

ION2 IIRC yes.

Hi uNi...

Please appologise if this is a noob question, but what du you mean with "IIRC"?

The user "Vicbitter" answered me on my PN, that it is i.e. possible with a Zotac IONITX S-Series.

Thanks

Cheers
IIRC it stands for If I Recall Correctly......Wink

Thank you Laugh

And....does he recall right? Wink

Maybe I´m a little bit scared of bying new hardware for nothing if it won´t work, you know...

Some people in german forums told me, it will never work under linux, some guys here got it to work flawelessly, but I never read about a working ION2 Plattform. The User Direx got it working with an Intel boad IIRC Wink

I always read something like "eventually" or "might be" but never a "yes....with this hardwarre it will work like a charme"

I have different options:

- buying a new board (i. e. the Zotac IONITX S-Series)

or

- buying another graphic card (Zotac GT430) (my old Zotac ION F-Series has a slot for that)

or

- bying a recommended hardware (Mini ITX Boards preferred), if somebody is sure, that it will work with that

So I´m a little bit confused Wink

What might be the best way?

Cheers and merry Christmas
David
Your question can be answered for sure if you email the manufacturer of the product before you buy.

As long as you ask specific questions and are not vague or confusing.

uNi.
ok...and what questions do I have to ask ;-)
How about if they will give you a free box?

A good start would be if you actually understudy what bit-streaming is and HD audio is.

You can also ask nvidia in addition of the product manufacturer, along with a link to product and what you want to do, your equipment etc.

Im not sure if I should laugh or cry with your Q, but so sure is rating up there in the WTF meter

uNi

Thanks for helping, and I´m not gonna ask you anymore!

But for so long...I know what bitstreaming and HD-Audio is. But I don´t know how it works. Must I? So I don´t know what "specific" questions I do have to ask.

You can laugh, if you want...doesn´t matter anymore! There are other users in this forum who are more interessted in spending some time to help others

Maybe my english isn´t that good, so some might get me wrong and sometimes I don´t understand every shortcut, but do you have to answer like this?

Have a nice time
