So I have read all those threads and couldn't find a solution for my problem. I am pretty inexperienced on Linux so its not easy for me.

I have no sound on xbmc eden 11.0. No sound with xbmc menus or while I read video.

Everything connects to this Motherboard:
M4A785-M Asus with AMD processor.

Video works great but no sound.

Here is my output for aplay -l
Code:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: VT1708S Analog [VT1708S Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/2
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
  Subdevice #1: subdevice #1
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: VT1708S Digital [VT1708S Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I was also able to ear sound on left and right speakers with this command: speaker-test -Dhdmi:HDMI -c 2 -t wav
Code:
speaker-test 1.0.24.2

Playback device is hdmi:HDMI
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 64 to 1048576
Period size range from 32 to 524288
Using max buffer size 1048576
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 262144
was set buffer_size = 1048576
0 - Front Left
1 - Front Right
Time per period = 10.950113

My settings in Setting > system > audio are:
Audio output : HDMI
speaker conf: 2.0
boost: on
dolby: on
DTS: on
Audio ouput device: hdmi (alsa)
Passthrough output device : hdmi (alsa)

When I playback a video with those settings it says "failed to initialize audio device". I tried at random a lot of different configurations on this panel. I never got sound to work. At best I did not get the "failed to initialize audio device" message with those settings (but still no sound):

Audio output : HDMI
speaker conf: 2.0
boost: on
dolby: on
DTS: on
Audio ouput device: iec958 (alsa)
Passthrough output device : hdmi (alsa)

I also checked that the volumes are at maximum in alsamixer.

Can anyone help me please with this or forward me toward the right direction?

EDIT: I now works.
I did set to custom the audio output and set the name to plughw:1,3
