I am looking to buy a Raspberry Pi to run XBMC, what I am looking to do with it is in effect use it as a Media player and connect it to my tv, but all of my media (Tv shows, movies and the like) are located on my main pc on a 2TB HDD...

My question is, can I set up XBMC on the Pi to index the files on my Pc and play them over the wifi on my tv... pretty much like DNLA?

all the best!
Yes
you need to create file share on your pc and then add this share to xbmc like a source i prefere on my pi to use nfs over samba because pi have limited hardware and nfs have lower overhead
