Hello,

I'm having a problem with crystalHD playback of HD content on an Apple TV 1.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with a custom-built 3.7.1 kernel, XBMC 12.0 from git (checked out about two weeks ago), NVIDIA 304.64 (latest available) driver, and CrystalHD v3.10.0 from the Broadcom git repository, tweaked for 8 buffers (down from 16, which seems to exceed the ATV's physical memory constraints)

Here's the dmesg output as I load the crystalHD driver and play a file:

Code:
Loading crystalhd v3.10.0
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: Starting Device:0x1615
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: enabling bus mastering
8139too 0000:03:03.0 eth0: link down
8139too 0000:03:03.0 eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: Opening new user[0] handle
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: Closing user[0] handle via ioctl with mode 417a00
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: Opening new user[0] handle
start_capture: pause_th:6, resume_th:3
crystalhd 0000:02:00.0: Closing user[0] handle via ioctl with mode 417a00

Playback is obviously improved when using the crystalhd card (CPU usage goes down, from 99% to ~50% ) and frame rates go up visibly. However, the framerate isn't constant. There's a periodic pause in the video flow, that lasts for maybe two tenths of a second, every second. The video then "catches up" by speeding up slightly, then pauses again, and so on. Scenes where the camera is panning or things are moving through the screen make this very obvious start-stop-start effect. Audio is smooth throughout.

Has anybody else experienced this? Any idea where the problem might be?

Thanks.
Although unable to help you, I've recently started experiencing the same problem on my HTPC that used to have no issues whatsoever. It's not an apple TV or even Crystal HD, just a Q660 quad core processor with a GT210 video card. Exact same problem, only with certain files (which oddly enough play perfectly on my ION box..). Nothing has changed, just one day showed up and has been around ever since, been meaning to look into it but never have. Running XBMC-Live, updated to XBMC Dharma. Mostly just wanted to subscribe so that I can attempt any solutions proposed to your problem. If I figure anything out, I'll let you know in the off chance it might help...
