Hi there...

Finally I bboughtt a Geforce GT520

This one: GT 520

I use XBMCbuntu RC2 for NVidia. The HTPC is plugged to a Rotel Pre Amp RSP 1570 via HDMI

At first I didn't get any picture while my XBMC is plugged to the amp. So I didn't get any EDID informations. I removed the graphic card from the board (Zotac ION F-Series), use the onboard HDMI output and I got a screen over the amp. Startet NVidia X-Server Settings, acquire the EDID information that I now get, saved them to a specified folder and configured my xorg.conf like this:

Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier     "Device0"
    Driver         "nvidia"
    VendorName     "NVIDIA Corporation"
    Option         "CustomEDID" "DFP-1:/home/david/Test/rotel.bin"
    Option         "ConnectedMonitor"   "DFP-1"
EndSection

After that, I got a screen with my GT520 plugged to the amp. So far so good Wink

I don't have any sounds! As I used my on-Board HDMI without my GT520 I got sound out-of-the-box.

I have tried everything I know but didn't get it solved, so I need your help please.

I unmuted all channels in "alsamixer"

And here is the screenshot of my sound settings:

http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/bi...u-7f1d.png

I also tried to do a speakter test like this:

Code:
speaker-test -Dplughw:1,7

I tried it with "1,7", "1,3" and with "0,3" and i didn't get any sound

So please spend some time to help me to get this to work

Thanks in advance

David
Maybe it's important....I use the 304.43 driver version
I see pulseaudio is installed.... why?

You should install alsa-utils libasound2 and purge pulseaudio.

uNI
I saw this too and i tried:

"apt-get purge pulseaudio"

The result ist:

Code:
david@david-xbmc:~$ sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio
[sudo] password for david:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package 'pulseaudio' is not installed, so not removed
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
david@david-xbmc:~$

I also made a debug log while playing a movie, if this will help:

http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=24665

Thanks for helping

I also installed your packages, following this thread:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1278648
also

Code:
apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio

gives me the same result

Code:
david@david-xbmc:~$ sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package 'pulseaudio' is not installed, so not removed
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
david@david-xbmc:~$
So you tried

Code:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall alsa-utils libasound2

What was result.

The pulseaudio comment is because on your first post the output of aplay -L it says pulseaudio sound server, So I guess what Im sayidng is, this is not needed and its somehow being dragged in here.

XBMC only needs alsa and aside some misconfiguration going on (I bet) that should be it.

uNi
I can't remember..so I did it once again:

The result:

Code:
[sudo] password for david:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.

I have the exact same card and everything is working for me. Here is my configuration, I hope it helps:

xorg.conf: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=24687
aplay -l, aplay -L and asound.conf: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=24689

I do not use Pulseaudio.
I just didn't want to use pulseaudio as well Big Grin

Got some troubleshooting with that in the past and only solution was to get this removed.

But I'm not able to get rid of it Wink
I have nothing to add for the OP, this is a message for @negge.

@negge

this is offtopic but needs to be said.

thats good, just a FYI when you upgrade your video drivers that xorg.conf and especially the modes will no longer work. Wink (as I noticed that xorg was/is for NV 280.version

Code:
Option         "FlatPanelProperties" "Scaling = Native"
Option         "metamodes" "1920x1080_60 +0+0; 1920x1080_60i +0+0; 1920x1080_50 +0+0; 1920x1080_50i +0+0; 1920x1080_24 +0+0"

scaling native will no longer works in 30x.x drivers (deprecated you will only get a message in /var/log/Xorg.0.log to that effect) and the metamodes will probably need replacing with modelines then again probably not but at least you know. My sig has more info on xorg.conf if you ever get tied in.

uNi

The funny thing is, if I remove the GT520 I got sound immediatly. Directly out-of-the-box. Even if pulseaudio is intalled (or not, or what ever...because it is shown, but can't remove it)
Yea you probably need to install nvidia drivers when you install the card as the drivers for onboard will probably not be same.

or even simpler

When you plug-in the Nvidia card you will need to change the audio output device in alsamixer with (F6) from current onboard to the nvidia card

Assuming that nvidia drivers are installed and are compatible with your 520.

uNi
Hugh...wait....

I remeber one thing, that could be related to my issue...

Is it possible that there have benn made some installation mistakes? On this HDD I had a previous installation of XBMCbuntu from his thread:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...=david1977

As I installed the RC2 I chose "delete Ubuntu 12.04 and install 12.10" (or like that)

Maybe some things are not clean deleted?
No idea about that, only if you chose to format the drives otherwise it wont.

uNi
I installed the Nvidia-drivers. So Iḿ now an 304.43

Just looked after a driver once again and found another one...310.19

shall i try this one?

http://www.nvidia.de/object/linux-displa...er-de.html
Try to fix it with 304.43

Also I would recommend, including Nvidia recommends using distribution ppa packaged drivers instead of the binary drivers.

A good ppa to use is x-swat ppa. just a FYI.
